COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

The alarming spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus has inflicted crushing biomedical blows, sent global economies into nosedives, incited social and political controversy almost as infectious as the virus itself, and endangered the health, safety, and well-being of billions of people across the globe. At the same time, people have also found compassion, generosity, and laughter amidst all of the confusion, fear, and chaos, whether it's participating in a 300-car-strong graduation parade or baking a toilet paper cake. We hope to show snapshots of what the COVID-19 pandemic has looked like throughout eyes, sharing uplifting stories, serious stories, grave stories, hilarious stories, and everything in between.

As of May 15th, 2020, most counties in Oregon have been approved for Phase One reopening, including all counties along the coastline and all counties in Eastern Oregon. However, many of the more densely-populated counties - including Washington county and Multnomah county, remain closed.

I saw this in the midst of studying for my AP Calculus exam, and the timing could not have been better - one of the few things that could entice me to take on a series problem is the promise of free food (btw the answer is 5).

Our world would not be able to function without the dedication, hard work, and sheer compassion our essential workers show for us each day they go to work. Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who work tirelessly to save lives and keep the virus at bay. Thank you to our law enforcment officers, who make sure our communities stay safe and peaceful during unpredictable times. Thank you to construction workers, delivery men/women, grocery store cashiers, and thousands of other unnamed men and women who go to work each day so the rest of us can stay safe at home.

It's incredible how much of an impact this pandemic has had on our beautiful city. It was such a visual shock when I saw downtown Portland for the first time after the lockdown began, seeing the usually bustling streets practically deserted, the normally lively and colorful storefront windows of Pioneer Place now standing muted and glum, and the empty, forlorn TriMet buses trundling slowly down the streets. Even the line in front of Voodoo Donuts now only overflowed halfway down the pink brick wall (and that's saying something).
